HOMOEOPATHY of "BARRING"
of
Dr Dominique SENN
AIM OF THIS PAMPHLET
It is to give a short information to enable everyone to have an idea of the peculiar concepts we use in the techniques drawn from the teaching of Dr Dominique Senn.
DEFINITION OF HOMEOPATHY
"Like treats like".
Starting from this formula, different schools present their therapies.
The Kentist school comes out of traditional homeopathy and respects the rules elaborated by Samuel Hahnemann. It considers that, however complex the symptoms of a patient are, one can, by work based on logic and acquisition of knowledge, find the unique remedy.
Dr Senn's school takes into consideration the rules of the Kentist school, and includes the effects of time, and how they result in the loss of capacity to adapt oneself, which effects each of us expresses in his way of being ill.
These influences are the "incessant solicitations during our growing up, whether they come from nutrition, infection, toxicity, vaccination, traumatism, emotions, sociology, politics, culture, etc…" (La Balance Tropique. Dr Senn - Lausanne).
In summary, homeopathy is more concerned with the patient than the disease: it's by understanding the history and the manner the person became ill that we can find out the treatment that enables him to recover his capacity to adapt himself.
"….the imperceptible changes of organism outside the state of health are only parts of a whole that we call illness. A curative treatment that makes them disapear cannot but destroy that disease", says Dr Dufresne of Geneva in the "22 dogmes de l'homeopathie hahnemanienne " (1833).
If like treats like, the whole of the symptoms treated by the remedy must correspond to what charactarizes the energetic state of the patient. That implies a unique remedy for his present state.
"one must always use a single remedy in homeopathy,…. for it is impossible to determine how the various ingredients will modify under each other's action, and it's even more difficult to determine exactly the relationship between the specific symptoms of the remedy and those of the illness", also says Dr Dufresne of Geneva in the "22 dogmes de l'homeopathie hahnemanienne " (1833).
What remains is to find this rare and unique remedy. This research has its laws :
The first, of course, is to take into account the specific identity of the illness and the symptoms that pertain to it.
The second is to add the reactive symptoms accompanying that illness and which appear to have nothing to do with it, but at the same time define the whole person.
These laws make compulsory a team work between the patient and the therapist.
And two cases then appear : the Acute and the Chronic.
THE ACUTE DISEASE
Acute affections are transitory, unpleasant reactions, more or less sudden, that appear with remarkable symptoms inconveniencing the patient. They always start at a certain level, are prone to increase, and then the symptoms lessen and disappear.
What we are looking for to find the remedy in an acute illness can be summed up by the following pattern :
Sensation
1
Modalities 3 4 Accompanying symptoms
2
Localisation
To these informations we could add the circumstances under which these symptoms appear : after a cold bath, a fall, a stress, etc...
1-Sensation : what the person experiences.
2-Localisation : point of impact : One must give precisely the location, the depth of the perturbation or the pain, as well as the irradiations must be specified.
3-Modalities : all the conditions modifying, increasing or diminishing the sensations felt by the patient. For example : the meteorological influences (warmth, cold, sun, storm, wind, air, humidity, etc…) position, movement, walking, alimentary influences, rythm over the 24 hours and the occasions when troubles are increased or diminished.
4-Accompanying symptoms : they are contained in the category of strange, bizarre symptoms, because our knowledge doesn't enable us to explain the relationship of the symptoms between each other. Usually neglected, these symptoms are carefully investigated in Homeopathy, for they don't characterize the illness, but rather the person who is ill. For example : sciatica is improved by urinating, abdominal cramps start after yawning or vexation, vertigo after shaving, etc….
In conclusion, investigation into what previously happened will lead to the choice of a precise and quickly efficient remedy.
THE CHRONIC DISEASE
Hahnemann was driven to study chronic illnesses because of his failures. He noticed that some of his patients who had previously been "cured" by homeopathy found themselves, after a change in their diet, after catching cold, after a meteorological variation, a more strenuous physical effort, a succession of psychological stresses, with a pathology characterized by a return of the old symptoms, charged by new, sometimes more serious symptoms. These patients, moreover, presented a remarkable resistance to the administration of a well maintained treatment.
For this type of chronic disease the information needed to find a unique remedy will have to be obtained through a more complete interrogation, that is :
5-General symptoms : weather, time, position, movement, heat, cold.
4-Food aversions and desires : salt, sugar, spices, fat, acidity.
3-Emonctory and genito urinary, diarrhea, constipation, menstrual periods, cystitis, uretritis.
2-Sleep and dreams.
1-Psychism : fear, phobias, angers, sadness, upsets….
DR SENN' S CONTRIBUTION
Dr Senn's contribution was to include the supplementary sociological phenomena of active life which he expresses in his tree of life.
"Man develops like a tree which adds a ring each year. He draws his sap from the intestines in which the flora bacteria (rhizome), in addition to the digestive juices, prepares the nutritive metabolites. While he grows up, he undergoes the assaults of diseases, vaccines, etc… on the somatic level, and the influence of his psychic surroundings, while bathing in the cosmic atmosphere. All of these disruptions are noted and memorized in his structure." Dr Senn in La Balance Tropique, p 132.
All of these stresses create a "barrage". "Biologically, the barrage slows down the distribution and harmonious, normal circulation of vital energy..." (Ibid p 168)
That tree is different for each one, it's up to the patient to rediscover the significant events of his life as precisely as possible (date of vaccination, infectious diseases, childhood diseases, trauma, surgery, etc…)
According to the intensity, the virulence of the assault, the constitutional capacity to respond, the duration, the repetition of the stress, the age and the reactive condition at the time, the system of protection will be more or less dense. The organism has a tendancy to do too much to make sure to resist. It surrounds itself with a margin of security by amplifying scars and calluses. To reconstruct this tree of life, it will take more time to clear up a pathology that dates back to a number of years.
